What's New in 2023?

Changes to the 2023 GMC Terrain are minimal, but a noticeable difference is an increase in horsepower. The 1.5L turbocharged engine now outputs 175 horsepower for more oomph. Two new paint options are also available, alongside gorgeous 19-inch wheels for drivers deciding to buy the Elevation package. The latter is only available on SLE and SLT models, and the striking Black Diamond Edition package is being added to the Denali trim.

Price ranges are similar to the previous model, and even the robust Denali boasts a great price. However, the SLE trim is all-inclusive and a great choice for drivers looking for a little bit of everything in a crossover. Drivability, no matter the trim, remains excellent and handling is well-composed.

Performance

Under the hood of the dynamic crossover is a 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a nine-speed automatic transmission and front or all-wheel drive capabilities. An all-wheel drivetrain gives the GMC Terrain additional balance on challenging roads and distributes torque evenly throughout the vehicle. This isn't to say that a front-wheel drive is a poor option, but rather that AWD will assist you through the harsh Scranton, PA, winters. Acceleration in the Terrain is gradual, going from 0 to 60 in 8.9 seconds, and it matches the speed of the previous model.

Although the Terrain is not the fastest vehicle, it is versatile and incredibly smooth. Long distances and family vacations are the perfect tasks for the crossover, as the Terrain remains comfortable on long stretches of road. An advanced suspension system pairs with the AWD system to increase balance for drivers. Regarding off-road versatility, you'll find that the vehicle can hold its own surprisingly well. The crossover stays sturdy over uneven terrain and follows smoothly on curved roads. Responsive handling cements the Terrain as a reliable crossover, making it a great choice in many situations.

Interior and Technology

Cabin space appointments in the new GMC Terrain are high-quality, and an immersive cabin joins the fray when choosing the Denali trim. Cargo space is extensive, with small cubbies and storage containers available for additional storage. Lounging in the large plush seats is a great feature, as well as operating the windows and heating/cooling with simple buttons.

Technology is sophisticated, and the touchscreen infotainment screen is crisp and responsive. Wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and WiFi Hotspot are included features, and in-dash navigation is available on the top-tier Denali model. For additional sophistication, a head-up display is an option on the SLT and AT4 trims and is included with the Denali.
